Our professional staff are trained Prosthodontists, specialists in dentistry requiring three years training after dental school to develop expertise in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, materials science and implant dentistry. The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff's training, professional credentials and work experience.
William L. Maness, DDS,MS
William L. Maness, D.D.S., M.S, a trained Prosthodontist, is the founder and director of Lewis Wharf Dental Associates established in 1974. He received his DDS degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and a Certificate in Prosthodontics as well as a Master of Science degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1974. Dr. Maness is also an Associate Clinical Professor at Tufts School of Dental Medicine, Department of Graduate and Postgraduate Prosthodontics. He holds memberships in many national and international organizations and has lectured world wide and published extensively on prosthodontics and occlusion. In 1983 he founded Tekscan Corporation and developed the first computerized device to measure dental occlusion.
Dr. Maness has over 35 years experience as a practicing Prosthodontist and his special interests include esthetics and cosmetic dentistry, full mouth reconstruction, implants and occlusion.

Dr. Chapman,DMD
R.J. Chapman, D.M.D., a trained Prosthodontist, received his DMD in 1967 and Certificate in Prosthodontics in 1974 from Tufts University.
Dr. Chapman was Chairperson of the Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry from 1997 until 2009. He co-founded the Dental Implant Center at Tufts in 1984 thru 1987 and he was elected President of the Implant Research Group of the International Association of Dental Research. He is also past President of the Tufts Dental School Alumni Association in 2001. In 2008 he was elected Chair of the Board of Director of the Consortium for Oral Health Related Informatics, a consortium of dental schools in NorthAmerica and Europe sharing electronic record data for research.
He has lectured world wide on prosthodontics, occlusion, craniofacial function, quality of life in dentistry, dental implants, and informatics research and has written numerous articles on these subjects. He has a continuing interest in research related to dental implants, occlusion and craniofacial function, reliability and effect on quality of life of dental care, heavy metal deposition in teeth as environmental biomarkers, and biomedical informatics science.
He retired from active teaching in September 2009 and is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry at Tufts and in private practice at Lewis wharf.

Dr. John Ictech - Cassis
Dr. John Ictech Cassis has been a Prosthodontist since 1986 after earning his Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies in Prosthodontics at Boston University. He is currently the Director of the Boston University Dental Health Center at 100 East Newton Street.
In addition, Dr Cassis serves as Clinical Professor of the Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials, Director of Postgraduate Operative and Esthetic Program, and Director of Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
Since completing his DMD degree in 1988 he has been in private practice.
Dr. Cassis has numerous professional interests. He is a member of several committees at BUGSDM as well as professional societies. He is also an experienced presenter, lecturing both nationally and internationally on restorative dentistry and esthetics.
In 2006, Dr. Cassis received the Spencer N. Frankl Award for Excellence in Teaching for his outstanding commitment to the mission of the school.

Dona Roberts - our Ambassador for Prevention
Dona R. Roberts is a registered dental hygienist with over 25 years experience within the dental field. She first graduated from Northeastern University's dental assisting program followed by Middlesex Community College for dental hygiene. Her wide range of experience includes dental assisting, surgical dental assisting, and dental office management. She has devoted herself to researching all aspects of the dental field, including cavity prevention, general/oral health connections and the various dental product choices available. She has lectured at Tufts University and at Partners Healthcare in the areas of cavity prevention and senior oral care and has volunteered in educating both medical and dental healthcare providers and to children and seniors. Dona is currently writing a book based on all of her research so that all people can have the opportunity to be informed about oral care. Check out Donna's blog.
