If you have been told you have periodontal (gum) disease, you’re not alone.

What is Periodontal or Gum Disease?

Periodontal disease is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. Your gum tissue is not attached to the teeth as high as it may seem. There is a very shallow v-shaped crevice called a sulcus between the tooth and gums.

If you have been told you have periodontal (gum) disease, you’re not alone.

An estimated 80% of American adults currently have some form of the disease whose symptoms include:

  • Bad breath that won’t go away
  • Red or swollen gums
  • Tender or bleeding gums
  • Painful chewing
  • Loose teeth
  • Sensitive teeth
